Sony Alpha 390

In Alpha 380 from last year Sony had, however, the wish realized for a compact housing to radically: The handle on the right has been so streamlined that it hardly serve as a "handle" could. Now the handle of the current Alpha 390 is again out so far that it is up to its name. On the back of the camera also provides a rubberized thumb rest for secure grip, the Alpha 390 is one that is significantly stronger in control than in its predecessor. With a weight of about 550 grams (without lens), the camera is nice and light.

The central element is the display with a diagonal of 2.7 inches (6.9 cm). Thus it is not oversized but lush, but enough. However, the monitor triggers, 230,400 pixels only right to coarse. After all, the display can be 90 degrees up and 70 degrees downwards - shooting in live view mode "is possible even without death-defying acrobatics. The display will also be quite happy to provide information: If desired, it displays the currently selected setting, a little explanation along with example image.

Important basic and fine adjustments can be adapted to retrieve and change the Alpha 390 via "Fn" key and. This is initially quite fast. That, however, the choice of a focusing area only through this function menu is possible, complicating the operation of Sony Alpha 390 unnecessary. Ambitious photographers will also interfere, that the options from a menu only in P, A, S and M are available. In the subject programs one is dependent on the requirements, Sony's engineers have programmed the set in the Alpha 390 only for exposure compensation, Alpha 390 has prepared a separate function key, but it works well only in P, A, S and M. Alpha 390 in rather compact menu lists are typical of a Sony camera quite easy. There will never need to scroll across the screen edge, to bring up a menu item - so it should be with any camera! Even the battery slot, Sony has positioned favorable as the energy donor-type NP-FH50 is pushed down into the case, the flap it sits far enough from the tripod mount. It is possible even when the quick release plate translated a battery change. The battery has a capacity of 6.1 which is good for about 500 shots when live view is not used.

Alpha 390 is not a facelift from its predecessor, Alpha 380. Sony has designed the current model, the new housing, it is significantly better in the hand. Apart from the nifty auto-focus response, Alpha 390 also quite slow. With its not exactly luxurious equipment is aimed primarily at the Alpha 390 users who shoot their pictures without ado.

You will surely find pleasure in the clear menus and the overall ease of use. If anything speaks for the Alpha 390, then its brilliant live-view concept: a quick, sure auto focus without annoying mirror slap - currently only Sony, with its "Quick AF Live View".
