What’s in Fujifilm FinePix XP10?

Fujifilm FinePix XP10 listed on the market at $149, cheaper than most waterproof compact cameras. The manufacturer claims that the FinePix XP10 is the first in its category; super tough. It means that the camera is shockproof, waterproof, freeze proof and dustproof too.

The camera comes in three different colors; green, blue and red. As the outdoor camera that handles the depth up to 3 m you cannot expect a grace and elegant design. It survives drops up to 1m and temperature down to -10°. The 2.7-inch display screen with 230.000 pixels is very clear even under the direct sunlight.



Various scene modes are available on this Fujifilm FinePix XP10 camera; the modes allow beginners to make good pictures quickly and safely without any photographic knowledge.

Unfortunately, the camera doesn’t allow any manual setting; this is bad for an advance user. Beginners will found friendly menu and an intelligent auto mode. The button is a bit smaller than most cameras, so it’s rather difficult to operates under water or when wearing gloves.

Optics & Image Quality of Fujifilm FinePix XP10

With a 5x zoom ranges of 36-180 mm nothing special with the XP10, but this amount roughly equivalent to the currently popular entry-level camera spectrum. (Who wants an increase of wide-angle and water levels should look at for example the Pentax Optio W90). The zoom during the test described as quite noisy. Optical image stabilizer is not available; instead Fujifilm provides an automatic increase in ISO-called "Digital Image Stabilization for stable images.

The XP10 comes with a 12.2-CCD sensor. So that, the noise found even at low ISO sensitivities. With increasing ISO values an internal noise reduction is switched on.

Features & Image Quality

The XP10 offers an HD video mode in 16:9 format at 1,280 x 720 pixels and 30 fps with maximum duration of 12 minutes, the optical zoom is available during this mode. The camera offers advanced Face Detection, which can also be functioned as a self-timer.

Conclusion: Fujifilm FinePix XP10

You cannot expect a fast and tough camera with $149, if you need an outdoor camera with outstanding capabilities; Pentax Optio WG-1 is a good choice. However, if you want to spent less than $150 for an outdoor camera go for the XP10.
