Digital Camera and electronics manufacturer Canon struggling with the consequences of the catastrophic earthquake in Japan.
The bottom line is the company's profit fell in the first quarter by 2.4 percent over the previous year to 55.46 billion yen, as Canon announced on Tuesday in Tokyo. The devastating earthquake in mid-March had damaged some of the works on the Japanese main island of Honshu heavily.
Operating profit declined in the period January to March at five percent to 82.5 billion yen. Revenue rose sharply by contrast, about 11 percent to 839.2 billion yen. Reason, however, was the takeover of the Dutch major printer manufacturer Océ.
The company clearly screwed back to Japan because of the disaster its forecast for the current fiscal year and is aiming for the full year to have sales of around 3.7 trillion yen and a pretax profit of around 335 billion yen. Canon quantified the negative effects of the earthquake at around 314 billion yen in sales. In early April, the company announced that the production ran into some work only intermittently.
