Digital Camera Buying Guide: Part 1

There are various digital cameras on the market; various brands, various types and even various equipments. Inexperience users will find unsure how to go about it. As a user, you don’t always need the digital camera with the latest technology. Remember to meet the specification with your basic requirement.

Here some guides that might help you to make a decision when buying a digital camera:

Megapixels

Megapixel is the measurement of the resolution. Higher number indicates better quality of photo. Latest compact cameras come with 14 megapixels. But again, you don’t always need the latest technology. If you won’t need to print your photos in huge poster size, you don’t need a digital camera with more than 10 megapixels.

More megapixel also means more space needed to store the files on memory card. Therefore you need bigger memory card if you want to save you files in higher resolution.

Zoom

Digital zoom and optical zoom indicate the distance shots; the zoom enlarging objects so that it looks closer. However, most photo editing software will help you to enlarge to photo in post production phase so that you don’t need very high number of zoom unless you are a professional photographer.

Higher value of zoom also means more blurry image, you need to make sure that the camera also comes with image stabilizer to reduce the shake effect.

Aperture Size

Aperture size is important especially when you take photos under low light condition. It determines how much light needed when you take a picture. Larger aperture size means less flash needed.

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is needed for moving objects. More speed indicates that the camera able to take fast moving objects in better quality. With higher speed you can take moving object in a pleasing and real-like image.

Storage

Memory card is the only storage media used by any digital cameras. There are many types of memory cards, but all have the same function. Just make sure that you buy the memory card that compatible with your digital camera.

Also, if you plan to record more video you will need a memory card with larger space. This also applies when your camera comes with high resolution.

The good thing is that this media allows a simple data transfer from digital camera to PC. You only need to insert the memory card to the slot on your PC.
