Panasonic Lumix FS37 comes with very well equipments, there is next to a 5X zoom lens and a fast wide angle and a precise image stabilizer. Nevertheless, one can already buy the camera at a price of 200 €.
The compact device has dimensions of 94.7 x 51.9 x 22.0 millimeters and fits in any pocket. The design itself is nothing special and rather plain. Nevertheless, the look is extremely pleasant. There is no common area in the inlets for the hand. The easy to use compact camera with a weight of 145 grams fits comfortably in your hand. The operations of the relevant elements are simple and easy. These are all built on the right side and can be operated from the left-handers. The thumb wheel allows quick switch between the program modes, with a slide switch you may switch between recordings to playback mode. There is also a Quick Menu button and a zoom rocker.
As with most compact cameras, Panasonic Lumix FS37 also lacks an optical viewfinder. The subject then can be viewed on the 2.5-inch screen on the back; with 230,000 pixels. By today's standards that's not really much use for the area but it goes forever. The display is adjusted automatically in 11 steps to the brightness of the ambient air.
Panasonic Lumix FS37: How good is it?
The intelligent auto mode is available on Panasonic Lumix FS37. This works with face and scene recognition. The optical image stabilizer counteracts camera shake. Continue with moving subjects, the sensitivity is increased, the sharpness is automatically and quickly made sharp, sharp contrasts are balanced and red eyes are retouched if necessary. But the most important is that you can operate camera with intelligent automatic system, even if you have no photographic knowledge. Alternatively, there are no fewer than 26 scene modes, including one for underwater shots. For this we need an optional housing. Video mode is integrated. You can record short films with a resolution of 720p. The flash itself is very well adapted to the different picture modes, but not always sufficient.
The lens is very rich for a compact camera. It consists of seven lens wide angle and works heavily with a movable lens group. It will cover a focal range of 25 to 125 millimeters. For driving through the entire area needs the compact camera about 2.8 seconds. The setting is done via the zoom rocker, but there are up to 16 intermediate steps. With the macro button you can switch directly in the vicinity. The focus is exclusively automatic. According to the manufacturer, the camera can hold up to 15 faces apart.
The image sensor operates at 10.1 megapixels. As a processor, Venus Engine IV is used. One of the properties is to reduce the noise. This color and luminance noise is treated separately in order to obtain an effective result. The test result indicates noise-free image in a brightness range from ISO 100 to 800. The best results are obtained at ISO 100 and 200. The sharpness of this camera is a nice little segment. Nevertheless occur at the edges brighter white edges. In order to avoid color bleeding, the manufacturer has installed an automatic correction. These are perceived only at wide-angle shots easily. In other areas this is not work very well. When looking at the pictures very carefully you can see a slight blur in the corners. Overall, we can say that the resolution is good in the middle focal length, acceptable in all others. The color fidelity is very good and also tuning of the image compression and image quality settings works fine. For a compact camera, the model exposes very well and is relatively insensitive to inaccurate exposure. The white balance is accurate; it is not a preference for it. There is possibility of manual setting.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS37: Conclusion
Panasonic Lumix FS37 test shows a positive conclusion. This is mainly due to the strong wide-angle. It is easy to group shots, landscapes and take pictures in confined spaces. This means that all situations are covered, so that the camera can be used very flexibly. On the other hand, there are some manual controls. The camera is very sleek and slim, so that you can take it easily. Nevertheless, we convinced by its image quality. The video function works with a resolution of 720p, making it suitable also for occasional short films. Thanks to the optical image stabilizer, assures the most successful recordings. Panasonic Lumix FS37 is already available for under 200 €.
