Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS Digital Camera Review

Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS: What’s in it?

Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS comes with small-compact size but full of features such as full-HD video, smart auto mode and expanded CMOS sensor.

The design is about the same as its predecessor, the ELPH 100 HS. It comes with the dimension of 6.4 x 5.6 x 2.2 inches and weighs 1 pound. On the front there are built-in flash and lens. It covers a focal range of 24 - 120 mm with the corresponding aperture f/2.7-f/5.9, whereby the camera is lighter and wider spectrum than many other covers. There is also a 5x zoom. On the left side are HDMI and USB interface. On the back there are controls for special playback, the menu, the video recording, a rocker for program and a five-way directional pad. Next there is the 2.7-inch display, which has 230 000 colors. This is smaller than some competitors, but perfectly adequate for the overall camera size.

Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS: How good is it?

The menu of Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS is quite clear, although some points are hidden in the sub-menus. The main functions can be found quickly. They were found either by pressinh a button or at the beginning of each menu item. Most are scene modes or artistic effects. The manufacturer has incorporated a feature that you can not find in a compact camera so often. The Digest mode; making each photo in a small film and adds them together at certain time intervals. One advantage of this Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS is definitely the speed. To take a picture, it takes an average of 2 seconds. Until you can make another, it takes just under 2.1 seconds. Thus it provides a good performance and is faster than many competitors in the same price segment.

Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS reaches a noise level of 1.5 percent, the result is visible grain. The ELPH 300 HS could be set to ISO value of up to 800 without reaching the limit. This can also take pictures in dark conditions, without losing of quality. Only from an ISO value of 1600, a noise was measured from 1.60 percent, which the recordings were poor.

Videos can be recorded in two versions, with access to both HD-qualities. With a resolution of 1080p 24 frames per second can be recorded, at a resolution of 720p, 30 frames per second processed. The second version turned out to be more stable because there is less stuttering. The auto focus works not only for photos, but even during video recording. You may also be included in the MOV format and thus are standardized for YouTube and social networks.

Overall, Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS needs a few improvement. But considering its price and features, it could be an excellent compact camera.
