Canon PowerShot SX230 HS: New member of SX series

Canon PowerShot SX230 HS is the successor to the PowerShot SX210 IS which is very popular among digital camera users. This year, Canon launches two new SX series; the SX230 and the SX230 at once.

Both come with solid compact design and competitive features. Based on its specification, the new cameras seem promising.

Canon PowerShot SX230 HS: What’s in it?

The SX230 HS has dimensions of 105.7 x 59.3 x 33.2 millimeters and weighs 215 grams with battery. Thus it is very compact and light, yet it manages to the manufacturer, many features and controls to integrate. The flash was blocked on the left side of the case. This is a point that was criticized since its predecessor. You could have done better, but you should consider further, that in a compact camera always has something to give up. Otherwise, the design is very good. The case is silver and is complemented by gray highlights. On the back is the 3 inch display with an aspect ratio of 16:9, shutter and zoom controls sit on the top. The on/off switch installed on the back. The mode dial has been integrated on the back as well. Furthermore, there is a record button for video, a button for display control and the menu button and the Func.Set.

You can optionally change the aspect ratio. For 16:9 and 4:3 resolution of 12 MP is available. If you change it to 3:2, the resolution is automatically reduced to 11 MP.

The PowerShot SX230 HS can be operated easily. Through the function set you can scroll down until found the desired setting. In Auto mode, you can not access some important settings such as the ISO value, but you may change the aspect ratio, which is extended to the entire camera.

The PowerShot SX230 HS also offers manual settings. The shooting in manual mode is very easy thanks to the on-screen meter. Giving consumers information about whether the correct settings are selected. The shutter speed ranges from 15 seconds to 1 / 2000.

Alongside with familiar scene modes and effects, there is a wonderful panorama mode, a thumbnail mode, color changes, a toy camera or fisheye effect. Videos are recorded with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 24 fps. There are various settings such as slow motion, but it decreases the quality. HDMI port is installed, so you can easily connect the camera to a TV.

Performance & quality

The picture and sound quality are pretty impressive for a compact camera at this class. Certainly there are areas such as environments with low light, where Canon PowerShot SX230 HS has its problems. Another advantage is the enormous zoom, which can be used during the video recording.
