How to adjust the ISO setting on Nikon D5100?

The ISO speed of Nikon D5100 is similar in concept to the film speed for analog cameras, the higher the value, the less light must come.

Higher ISO values also increases susceptibility to noise effects in the air: pictures in the evening or at dawn have therefore not rare to find a grayish veil. With the proper choice of the ISO value, the photographer can counteract such undesirable side effects to a certain extent.

Nikon D5100

Nikon D5100 lets you choose between a fully automatic and manual ISO setting. Although the former is usually sufficient for most shooting scenarios, a "fine tuning" on the manual setting just experienced photographer is recommended.

Follow these steps with a Nikon D5100 by:
  1. Turn the D5100 on with the ON / OFF button operation.
  2. Select the desired recording mode: "Auto" and "Flash" (crossed lightning symbol), the ISO-determination is always set to "automatic". For a set between ISO 100 and 6400 you need in the mode P, S, M or A record. If the ISO setting to "Auto"is set, it will be deactivated once you change to one of the manual modes.
  3. Press display info button (small I symbol) for the current ISO sensitivity in the control panel of the Nikon SLR D5100.
  4. Use the four-pad buttons to change the ISO setting according to your preferences. Confirm each selection with "OK ". Then the Nikon D5100 is ready to shoot.
