Nikon D5100 comes with self-timer for self portrait purpose. The activation of this feature will triggers predetermined countdown. Make sure you put Nikon D5100 in appropriate place and position to ensure perfect shots.
Also you need to make sure that you put the D5100 on hard surface such as tripod or table so that the camera won’t move during the shot.
To activate the self-portrait timer on Nikon D5100:
- Turn on the camera as usual.
- Find a suitable position and good all-round visibility. The camera should be able to stands safely and stably. The attachment to a tripod is certainly the best way to successful and safe shooting.
- Press the Menu button and select the entry "Self-Timer" (a small clock icon). Confirm with "OK".
- Choose between the different trigger delays (for example, "2 seconds" or "Quick Response"). Confirm your selection with OK. If you have the ML-L3 remote control to activate it when needed.
- Look through the viewfinder of the Nikon D5100 and press the shutter button halfway through. In this case no recording is made, but only focuses on the scene.
- Now you can press the shutter button and position itself within the countdown time in the picture. If you have turned on the ML-L3 remote control to otherwise position in peace and activate the trigger at any time by remote control.
