Ricoh G700SE in Review

Ricoh G700SE: Digital Camera with LAN Support

Ricoh G700SE is more than a common digital camera; the G700SE comes with WLAN and Bluetooth support. Furthermore the digital camera also determines location using GPS satellites.

Ricoh claims that the G700SE is shockproof and survives falls from height up to 2 meters without damage. User can bring the camera for diving up to 5 meters depth for about two hours without water getting in. As an outdoor camera, Ricoh G700SE works very well in freezing temperatures of up to 10 degrees and resistant to chemicals.

The lens has a 5x zoom. The optical image stabilizer is not available since the digital camera using digital image stabilizer which increases the sensitivity only to shorten exposure time.

In the automatic mode, user may changes some settings such as light sensitivity or white balance. Aperture and shutter speed are automatic. Scenes modes are available on this G700SE.

The camera equipped with 3-inch display screen that also acts as a viewfinder. It displays a detailed image with a resolution of 920,000 pixels.

The "Adj" button allows quick adjustment of exposure compensation, white balance, sensitivity or the image size. With the four-way directional pad, user also has direct access to the flash.

As we mentioned above that Ricoh G700SE comes with Bluetooth and WLAN support; both are easy to operate.

Image Quality

The image quality is far behind most other compact cameras. The colors are rather dark, and even at ISO 100 the noise occurred very clearly.

The images are also suffered in the detail and contours. Better quality can be found when the image is reduced to a quarter of its original size.

The 720p video is also not too great; colors are distorted, the microphone is weak, the white balance and the auto focus are disappointing.

The lithium-ion battery supplies power for the G700SE. User can also insert two AAA batteries into the camera as a temporary replacement. As a storage media SD and SDHC cards are used.

Conslusion

Ricoh G700SE is not a suitable camera for daily usage. The image quality is poor and the features are stingy. However this is a very good camera for special conditions such as extreme sports or adventure.

The camera priced for $1,000, but Amazon listed the camera for $849,00 at the moment. Click here to take advantage on this very special price.
