Kodak EasyShare Max Z990: Bridge camera with 30x zoom
Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 is the newest bridge camera in our review. The bridge camera has a back illuminated image sensor, a lens with 30x zoom and takes photos also videos in full HD resolution. The operation is pretty simple, although user needs a little time to get familiar with.
Kodak EasyShare Max Z990: How good is it?
Kodak is building up a back illuminated CMOS image sensor in the Easyshare Max Z990. It absorbs more light than conventionally designed sensors, which are reduced in practice, especially the exposure times. The chip is equipped with a standard area of 1 / 2, 33 inches by about twelve megapixel resolution.
The lens of Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 offers the photographer a 30-fold zoom. The movement still takes up to three seconds. The autofocus is faster than most compact cameras. The camera comes with optical and digital image stabilizer. However, in video recording mode, only digital image stabilizer is available.
The EasyShare Max Z990 has similar recording programs like many SLRs. Both full automatic and manual setting are available. In manual mode, user can adjust aperture between F2.8 and F8.0. In addition, the camera has 13 scenes and an HDR program for users who do not stay long with the settings.
The three-inch screen on the back of Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 is used for image display and a viewfinder. In addition, the camera has an electronic viewfinder, the effort is worth it, especially in sunlight or to save energy. The large display has a resolution of 460,000 pixels and small viewing angle. After about 20 degrees per viewing direction change the colors and the screen quickly appears black.
Despite its size, the EasyShare Max Z990 can be operated by right hand, with so much more comfortable work if the left hand holds the lens and stabilize it.
The various control elements of Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 have clear pressure points. On the top of the camera include a direct dial buttons for continuous shooting, macro and self timer.
With the four-way directional pad, user navigates through the menus of the Easyshare Max Z990 The other keys on the back to change the information displayed on the display, setting the flash, starting the image display and delete files.
All variable settings appear in a bar at the top of the screen - the button for the main menu. Navigation through the menu bar and its sub-items has proven to be unnecessarily complicated. Settings such as sensitivity to light or the white balance can be changed without disproportionate effort.
Image Quality
Without flash, the colors of the images faded slightly. At the same time the pictures have fine detail and clear outlines.
However, at a light sensitivity of ISO 100, a slight image noise can be seen if the images viewed in original size. Starting from ISO 3200 the images are useless.
Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 records video in Full-HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The colors look natural, but the films lack of detail so that the contours are blurred. The autofocus is slow and often requires a moment too long to provide a focus on the subject.
The complete 30-fold zoom is available - but can not quiet at maximum focal length film out of hand. The internal microphone provides an easily understandable tone, the surroundings are completely quiet, but the zoom moves are pretty annoying.
The plastic housing of Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 seems robust and has no manufacturing defects. The handle is covered with a rough rubber layer so that the photographer holds the camera safe in their hands.
The power supply of the Easy Share Max is provided by four AA batteries or rechargeable batteries. For them, global supply should be available, however, point out the current available storage capacities and very different tend to be heavier than a lithium-ion battery.
Photos and videos stored on SD and SDHC cards. On the left side of the camera housing are a HDMI port and a combined USB / AV port under a protective rubber cap.
Conclusion
Huge zoom alone is just not enough. Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 has a large zoom range. In terms of picture quality the camera provides only average and the service is proving to be very used to.
Kodak sells the camera in the company's own online store for $330; Amazon priced the camera for $319.54.
Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 already has a large focal length, but Nikon Coolpix P500 and Canon PowerShot SX30 IS offer even more zoom.
