Leica V-Lux 30: Large focal size
Leica V-Lux 30 is an all-rounder for the trip: a large focal size, Full-HD video mode, GPS and 3D mode. There are manual settings for the advanced. Compared to its predecessor V-Lux 20, it provides more focus and also a GPS. Obviously, the V-Lux 30 is a direct competitor to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10.
With higher price than the Lumix DMC-ZS10, costumers will hope the Leica V-Lux 30 provides a real added value. The new camera from Leica will available on June.
Leica V-Lux 30: How good is it?
The dimension of the V-Lux 30 is not thin and unfits for a pocket. The display screen is about the same as its predecessor; 3-inches with a resolution of 460,800 pixels. Even tough this is a touch screen-type; there are still a lot of buttons for an adjustment.
In addition to a program (P), there is also full range of manual settings, so there is fully manual mode (M) and semi-automatic modes (A, S). There are also a bunch of scene modes. The white balance can be adjusted manually. What is missing from the Leica, is a RAW mode - only with JPEG storage is available.
Leica V-Lux 30 offers an impressive focal range: The infected by an above-average wide angle to telephoto in a really good all of it. The light intensity is f3, 3 to f4, 3 not bad, but not out stabbing. An optical image stabilizer is of course included. The macro mode allows close range with a limit of 3 cm and liked it.
The sensor is a CMOS, as it is mostly used in digital SLRs. Only the size is typical compact digital camera: 1 / 2, 33 inches.
The digital camera has a video mode in Full HD in AVCHD compression. The recording starts with a separate shutter button - it's quick and easy. Sound is recorded on an integrated stereo microphone.
Also, a 3D photo feature is found on board of Leica V-Lux 30, here assembled a series of two matching images into a 3D photo. Another new feature is the integrated GPS module, which fits the latitude and longitude into the EXIF file. Included with Leica V-Lux 30 is the software Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 - which puts the price a bit.
