Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H70: How good is it?

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H70 is suitable for snapshots, in which the camera makes all settings, and certain extent for scheduled recordings. In addition to twelve scene programs and a “smart” automatic feature, manual mode is also available. Photographer can determine the aperture and shutter speed - but only two aperture sizes available.

The 3-inch screen on the back of the Cyber-Shot DSC-H70 serves as a viewfinder and image control. Its resolution is limited to 230 400 pixels. Under direct sunlight, the display is difficult to read. The monitor is darkened by an inclination of 45 degrees, clear from all sides.

The controls on the back allows photographer to change the settings for flash, face recognition, the self-timer and the appearance of display and call the image display or the menu of the camera.

The sidebar is actually a good solution to change many exposure settings quickly. The road to the main menu is too cumbersome. A separate button would be useful.

The image quality is high in detail and the colors look natural. The contrast seems pleasant.

Up to and including ISO 800, the images are still good for personal use. From ISO 1600 the noise is so strong even with a quarter original size views.

Despite its high resolution image sensors Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H70 only records videos in HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. The detail is sufficient. Colors, shapes and contrasts are also okay, but still no joy prepares the video function.

The internal microphone provides well understandable sound. The autofocus works well and provides a rule for a sharp image; the white balance is rather slow and sometimes takes too long to adjust the exposure settings to changing light conditions.

The Cyber-Shot DSC-H70 uses plastic housing except for the front side; metal plate uses here. The camera has processed properly and the small rubber bulge on the front and the large thumb rest on the back assure safety.

The lithium-ion battery survives for up to 290 shots. Sony equips the camera with only a single connection. At the bottom there is a universal connection for AV signals, USB and power cables.

Conclusion:

The Cyber-Shot DSC-H70 has no outstanding features, but quite convincing during the test. It provides good image quality.

This Cyber-Shot DSC-H70 priced for $224.00 in Amazon. For other Internet retailers, the buyer currently pays around $230.00.
