Sony NEX-VG10: Cheap and Professional

Sony NEX-VG10 with its bayonet lenses looks like a real film cameras. Here, the video camera in the base version is much cheaper – but the extra lenses can be really expensive.

Sony expands the NEX-VG10 an in-house Exmor CMOS image sensor in APS-C format. With edge lengths of 23.4 x 15.6 mm its area is not only much larger than most camcorders, but also has the same size as the chips in many cameras. The sensor captures video in Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and up to 24 megabits per second - with photos reached twelve megapixel resolution.

The case of Sony NEX-VG10 is made of plastic, but looks sturdy and has no manufacturing defects. The user can grab the video camera using the hand strap to keep safe. The handle on the top - which merges into the microphone and viewfinder - offers users more opportunities to take the camera safely and comfortably in the hand, and to discover new perspectives.

Sony NEX-VG10 powered by lithium-ion batteries. The standard battery that comes with the camera disappears in the large battery bay, which still has room for much larger electricity storage. Videos and pictures are saved to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards and memory sticks.

On the right side of Sony NEX-VG10 there is a headphone, a stream, an HDMI and a USB port. The handle, the user will also feature a microphone input and two different shoes accessories, against which to connect as video lights, an external microphone or other devices.

Conclusion: Beautiful pictures and great discretion

Sony NEX-VG10 provides an excellent image quality and offers the user a lot of room. Only the operation could have been in some respects even more convenient. The video camera is ideal because of its cost and the more extensive operation for serious amateurs and professionals - the opportunity for filmmakers oversized is the camera.

Sony NEX-VG10 is the first affordable video camera with interchangeable lenses.
