Ricoh CX5 Digital Camera Review…Again

Ricoh CX5: Compact camera for Travelers

Ricoh CX5 is the successor to the Ricoh CX4. Both are nearly specifically same, unless for the weight since the CX5 uses more plastic.

Ricoh CX4 launched on August 2010, less than one year later the CX5 was launched. The new CX5 comes with same resolution; 10 MP but higher resolution can be found on its display screen.

Ricoh CX5

With Ricoh CX5 you can combine multiple features together, that is useful as an automatic macro exposure or color range. Ricoh is also building a lot of options not only easy but also allows a manual configuration. The popular Tilt-Shift effect (miniature recorder) must be regulated to edit subject area by hand. This flexibility is of course an enormous strength of Ricoh CX5, but requires that intensively deal with the camera.

You can also rely on the super-automatic, but alone this is the Ricoh CX5 too good (and expensive). The backlit CMOS sensor enables up to ISO 800, noise free, but rather on the look that is neither particularly bright nor is extremely accurate.

Thanks to a hybrid system that works so fast. The camera tries to keep the subject constantly sharp. If you press the record button halfway, the focus point is fixed - now you can pan the camera a bit, without losing its sharp look at the subject.

Ricoh CX5 and still working in 720-line method, at least it has a mini-HDMI out. Fittingly, one can not use SDXC cards with high capacity.

Ricoh CX5: Conclusion

The differences to the CX4 are so small that an upgrade is not worthwhile. Otherwise, Ricoh CX5 is a compact companion for almost any photographic situation - except when a short film in FullHD is required.
